Fundraiser for Arthur

There's this quote by a French poet: “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.”

Arthur is our visible soul.

In November 2021, we were wakened by a howling kitten in the garden outside. He was so sickly and filthy. Arthur walked right over to us, said hi, and had a good bath soon after. Over the next year, he had so many illnesses and had to have meds, tests and be in quarantine for big chunks of time. Once he was clearly much better, we’d fallen WAY too in love with this little guy, so we adopted him. We’d also noticed that there was something very exceptional about this cat!

The mentor

Not only does Arthur give his cat mum and poppa a real hug at least once a day, but he has also been a ‘bridge cat’ helping comfort and socialise over 100 kittens we’ve fostered in the last 2 years. Arthur shows them how to play hide ‘n go seek in the cat tunnel, and not to fear humans or vacuum cleaners. He also helps trial out cat vibes for rescue dogs.

As a reward for his hard work, he gets to walk his volunteers in the garden every week and basically have all the treats he’d like 😊

Light a candle on 15 October

Last month, on a Saturday morning, Arthur was rushed to the vet. He had laboured breathing, a high fever, and pain all over. Our vet took such good care and swiftly had him on IV antibiotics and pain meds to give him comfort. He also developed head wobbling and eye shifting. It was so brutal to see him like that...

It turns out that Arthur has a big polyp in his nasopharyngeal cavity and infection in his middle ear, called ‘otitis media’ which has ruptured his tympanic membrane. Thankfully, a surgeon on the island is able to do a complex surgery called a “ventral bulla osteotomy (VBO)” to remove the polyp. Although it’s an intricate procedure, the surgeon has been very reassuring. Surgery date is set for Tuesday 15 October.

And, this is where we really need your help. With the rescue work we do, we are already over our max in expenses. Costs for his care come to just under €1,500. If you can spare anything at all, we would be so grateful. He will have the surgery regardless, but if we don’t raise enough to cover the costs we will have to be on pause for a while.

Arthur is our soul and our rock. He has many more kittens to help and so many more hugs to give.
